This new magic book for Dungeons & Dragons gives your character knowledge about the multiverse and the many planes of existence. New chapters appear as you gain levels, providing the power to move between the planes.

Wondrous Item, rare [Tier 2]
(requires attunement)

Weight: 4 lbs.

This thick, leather bound book contains information about the many planes of the multiverse. To most viewers, the pages appear blank. But when you attune to the book, words and colorful illustrations appear on the pages, with new chapters appearing as you gain levels.

Planar Knowledge. The first chapters present a general overview of the multiverse. You have advantage on Intelligence checks (Arcana, History, Investigation, or Religion) related to information about the planes of existence, such as deducing the home plane of a certain deity or monster.

Ethereal Sight. As an action, you can enhance your vision for up to 1 minute. For the duration, you can see into the Ethereal Plane, out to a range of 120 feet. This property can be used a number of times per day equal to your proficiency bonus.

Planar Gate. Once per day, you can spend 1 hour and a gem worth 500+ GP to open a temporary gate to one of the following planes: the Feywild, the Shadowfell, the Astral, the Ethereal, the four Elemental Planes (Air, Earth, Fire, and Water), plus surrounding demiplanes like the demiplane of Ash.

The gate stays open a number of minutes equal to your proficiency bonus, until you close it as an action, or it is destroyed by a Dispel Magic spell cast at 5th level.

Very Rare [Tier 3] upgrade

When you achieve level 10 while attuned to the manual, new chapters appear and you gain new knowledge about the planes of existence.

Ethereal Jaunt. As an action, you can magically shift from the Material Plane to the Ethereal Plane, or vice versa. This property can be used a number of times per day equal to your proficiency bonus.

Improved Planar Gate. You can now open a gate using a 10 minute Ritual and a gem worth 500+ GP. The gate opens to any of the outer planes in addition to the previously listed planes. The gate stays open a number of minutes equal to your character level, until you close it as a bonus action, or it is destroyed by a Dispel Magic spell cast at 7th level. This property can be used 3 times per day.



Legendary [Tier 4] upgrade

When you achieve level 17 while attuned to the manual, the final chapters appear and you gain new powers to travel between planes and control multiplanar beings. The book has 12 charges and regains 1d8 + 4 expended charges each day at dawn.

Master of the Planes. You can use an action to expend 5 or more of the book’s charges to cast one of the following spells from it: Conjure Elemental (5 charges), Conjure Fey (6 charges), or Conjure Celestial (7 charges).

Traveler of the Planes. You can use an action to expend 4 or more of the book’s charges to cast one of the following spells from it: Dimension Door (4 charges), Etherealness (7 charges), Plane Shift (7 charges). Astral Projection (9 charges), or Gate (9 charges).
