This new magic item for Dungeons & Dragons is a pair of gauntlets with cold-based powers that gain new features as your character gains levels.
Frost Gauntlets
Wondrous Item, uncommon [Tier 1]
(requires attunement)
Weight: 4 lbs.
These magical gauntlets, adorned with glowing sapphires, were created by the frost dwarves of Krielkeg to enhance their warriors’ combat capabilities.
Frost Strike. Once per turn, you can deal an extra 1d6 Cold damage to one creature you hit with a melee attack while wearing the gauntlets.
Icicle Spike. When a gauntlet is not holding a weapon or item, you can use a Bonus Action to create an icy spike on the gauntlet. The spike works like a Shortsword +1 and lasts until you dispel it or you take Fire damage.
Rare [Tier 2] upgrade
When you achieve level 5 while attuned to the gauntlets, your Frost Strike deals 2d6 Cold damage and the Icicle Spike works like a Shortsword +2. The gauntlets gain new properties.
Cold Resistance. While wearing these gauntlets, you have resistance to Cold damage.
Ice Arrow. You can use a Magic action to shoot an ice arrow from the gauntlet. Make a ranged spell attack against one target within 60 feet. On a hit, the target takes 1d8 Piercing damage and 1d4 Cold damage. This property can be used a number of times per day equal to your proficiency bonus.
Very Rare [Tier 3] upgrade
When you achieve level 10 while attuned to the gauntlets, your Frost Strike deals 3d6 Cold damage and the Icicle Spike works like a Longsword +2. The gauntlets gain new properties.
Cold Absorption. When you take Cold damage, you can choose to have the gauntlets absorb the damage instead. That damage can then be added to your next use of Frost Strike. This property can be used a number of times per day equal to your proficiency bonus.
Snowball Bomb. When a gauntlet is not holding a weapon or item, you can use a Magic action to create a glowing snowball and throw it at a point up to 60 feet away. Each creature within 5 feet of that point must succeed on a Dexterity saving throw or take 3d6 Cold damage.
Legendary [Tier 4] upgrade
When you achieve level 17 while attuned to the gauntlets, your Frost Strike deals 4d6 Cold damage. The gauntlets gain new properties.
Ice Weapon. When a gauntlet is not holding a weapon or item, you can use a Bonus Action to create an icy magic weapon locked onto the gauntlet. Choose any melee weapon that can be used with one hand. You have a +3 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this weapon and can not be disarmed. The weapon lasts for 10 minutes or until you dispel it.
Spellcasting. The gauntlets have 10 charges and regain 1d6+4 expended charges daily at dawn. While attuned to the gauntlets, you can use a Magic action to expend 4 or more of the charges to cast one of the following spells: Ice Storm (4 charges), Cone of Cold (5 charges), or Wall of Ice (6 charges).
