This new spell for Dungeons & Dragons creates a pit filled with hungry mouths that try to devour anything that falls in the pit.
Devouring Pit
6th level conjuration
Casting Time: 1 action
Range: 120 feet
Components: V, S, M (a piece of tooth from a fiend)
Duration: Concentration, up to 1 minute
You create a 15 foot deep pit on a 30 foot square on ground that you can see within range. The bottom of the pit is filled with hundreds of fang-filled mouths that attempt to devour anything that falls into the pit. For the duration, the bottom of the pit is difficult terrain.
When a creature enters the affected area for the first time on a turn or starts its turn there, the creature must succeed on a Dexterity saving throw or take 4d6 piercing damage and be restrained by the mouths until the spell ends. A creature that starts its turn in the area and is already restrained by the mouths takes 4d6 piercing damage.
A creature restrained by the mouths can use its action to make a Strength or Dexterity check (its choice) against your spell save DC. On a success, it frees itself and can attempt to climb out of the pit.
At Master and Epic Level. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 7th to 9th level, choose 1 option:
- The range increases by 20 feet for each slot level above 6th.
or - The area of effect increases by 10 feet wide and 5 feet deep for each slot level above 6th, to a maximum 60 foot square that is 30 feet deep.
or - The damage increases by 1d6 for each slot level above 6th, to a maximum 7d6 piercing damage.
or - Restrained creatures suffer a -2 penalty to their Strength or Dexterity escape check for each slot level above 6th, to a maximum -6 penalty.
