This new magic item for Dungeons & Dragons is a bronze figurine that can release a bronze dragon that grows more powerful at higher levels.
Bronze Dragon Figurine
Wondrous Item, rare [Tier 2]
(requires attunement)
Weight: 1 lb.
This bronze figurine is shaped like a dragon with gemstone eyes. If you use an action to speak the command word and throw the figurine to a point on the ground within 60 feet of you, the figurine becomes a living bronze dragon. If the space where the bronze dragon would appear is occupied by other creatures or objects, or if there isn’t enough space for the dragon, the figurine doesn’t become a dragon.
The bronze dragon is friendly to you and your companions if you are a good alignment. It understands your languages and obeys your spoken commands. If you issue no commands, the dragon defends itself but takes no other actions.
The bronze dragon exists for a duration specific to each power tier. At the end of the duration, the dragon reverts to its figurine form. It reverts to a figurine early if it drops to 0 hit points or if you use an action to speak the command word again while touching it. When the bronze dragon becomes a figurine again, its property can’t be used again until a certain amount of time has passed, as specified in the power tier.
Rare [Tier 2]
When you achieve level 5 while attuned to the figurine, you can summon a bronze dragon wyrmling for up to 6 hours. Once the figurine has been used, it can’t be used again until 5 days have passed.
Very Rare [Tier 3] upgrade
When you achieve level 10 while attuned to the figurine, you can summon one of the following options:
- A bronze dragon wyrmling for up to 12 hours. Once the figurine has been used, it can’t be used again until 3 days have passed.
or - A young bronze dragon for up to 3 hours. Once the figurine has been used, it can’t be used again until 5 days have passed.
Legendary [Tier 4] upgrade
When you achieve level 17 while attuned to the figurine, you can summon one of the following options:
- A bronze dragon wyrmling for up to 24 hours. Once the figurine has been used, it can’t be used again until 24 hours have passed.
or - A young bronze dragon for up to 6 hours. Once the figurine has been used, it can’t be used again until 3 days have passed.
or - An adult bronze dragon for up to 5 minutes. Once the figurine has been used, it can’t be used again until 5 days have passed.
Power Tiers
To help Game Masters determine which player character levels a magic item is appropriate for, each item is assigned a power tier.
Tier 1: Levels 1 – 4
Common and Uncommon items for characters still learning their abilities.
Tier 2: Levels 5 – 10
Uncommon and Rare items for characters who are seasoned adventurers.
Tier 3: Levels 11 – 16
Very Rare items for characters who are established masters of their class.
Tier 4: Levels 17 +
Legendary items for characters who are like superheroes or demigods.
An item’s power tier is only a suggestion, and the GM should consider how each item would best fit with their campaign and player characters.
