This new magic item for Dungeons & Dragons is a thorn-covered longsword. The Thorn Blade gains new powers as your character gains levels.
Thorn Blade

Properties: Versatile (1d10+1 slashing)
Crafted for the legendary ranger Jonigan Elmbough, this longsword harnesses the power of nature. You have a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this magic weapon.
Thorn Snare. On a hit, you can wrap the target in the blade’s thorny vines. The target takes an additional 1d6 Piercing damage and must make a DC 12 Strength saving throw. A Large or larger creature has Advantage on this save. On a failed save, the target has the Restrained condition for 1 minute or until it frees itself.
While Restrained, the target takes 1d6 Piercing damage at the start of each of its turns. The target or a creature within reach of it can take an action to make a DC 12 Strength (Athletics) check. On a success, the target is freed. This property can be used a number of times per day equal to your proficiency bonus.

Very Rare [Tier 3] upgrade
When you achieve level 10 while attuned to the Thorn Blade, you have a +2 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this magic weapon.
Nature’s Guidance. While attuned to the Thorn Blade and holding it, you have Advantage on Intelligence (Nature) and Wisdom (Survival) checks.
Vines Trap. As a Magic action, you can create a magic trap with a 5-foot radius on the ground or the floor. This trap is nearly invisible, requiring a successful DC 15 Intelligence (Investigation) check to be discerned. The trap triggers when a Small, Medium, or Large creature moves onto the trap’s radius. That creature must make a DC 15 Dexterity saving throw. On a failed save, the target 1d6 Piercing damage and has the Restrained condition for 1 minute or until it frees itself.
While Restrained, the target takes 1d6 Piercing damage at the start of each of its turns. The target or a creature within reach of it can take an action to make a DC 15 Strength (Athletics) check. Legendary [Tier 4] upgrade
When you achieve level 17 while attuned to the Thorn Blade, you have a +3 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this magic weapon.
Thorns Burst. As a Magic action, you can release a burst of thorns in a 30-foot cone. Each creature in that area must make a DC 15 Dexterity saving throw, taking 8d6 Piercing damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one. This property can be used a number of times per day equal to your proficiency bonus.
Spellcasting. The Thorn Blade has 6 charges and regain 1d4+2 expended charges daily at dawn. While attuned to the sword, you can use a Magic action to expend 2 or more of the charges to cast one of the following spells: Barkskin (2 charges), Spike Growth (2 charges), or Conjure Woodland Beings (4 charges).
