Aria’s Magic Stick – new DnD magic item

Aria’s Magic Stick magic item for Dungeons and Dragons

This new magic item for Dungeons & Dragons is an ordinary looking stick that transforms into a Druid’s shillelagh.

Aria’s Magic Stick

Weapon (quarterstaff), uncommon [Tier 1]
(requires attunement by a druid)

Damage: 1d8+1 bludgeoning
Weight: ¼ pound to 4 pounds
Properties: Versatile (1d10+1)

This 9 inch long branch of elkwood was discovered by Aria Thistledown as a child. When the curious halfling became a powerful druid, she enchanted the stick with new powers.

A druid can use the stick as a spellcasting focus.

Shillelagh. As a bonus action, you can speak a command word to make the stick grow into an elkwood quarterstaff. You can use your Wisdom instead of Strength for the attack and damage rolls of melee attacks using this weapon. You have a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this magic weapon.

Unbreakable. The stick, in either form, can not be broken by anything less than a wish spell. However, it can still be burned by magical fire.

Rare [Tier 2] upgrade

When you achieve level 5 while attuned to the stick, it gains new powers.

Boomstick. As an action, you can throw the stick at a point up to 60 feet away, where it explodes. Each creature within 5 feet of that point must succeed on a Dexterity saving throw or take 3d6 piercing damage. The stick reappears in your hand at the start of your next turn. This feature can be used a number of times per day equal to your proficiency bonus.

Tree Growth. As an action, you can place the tip of the stick in soil. A fully adult tree that is appropriate for the climate instantly grows at that point. This feature can be used a number of times per day equal to your proficiency bonus.

Very Rare [Tier 3] upgrade

When you achieve level 10 while attuned to the stick, you have a +2 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this weapon in shillelagh form.

Fetch. Once per day, as an action, you can throw the stick at a point up to 60 feet away. One creature within 30 feet of that point must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw or be charmed by you. If charmed, the target must use its movement to go to the stick and pick it up, then return the stick to you, using the dash action if necessary. After it returns the stick, the target can make another Wisdom saving throw at the end of each of its turns and each time it takes damage.

Reforestation. Once per day, as an action, you can cast plant growth without expending a spell slot. Casting this spell on the same spot every day for a lunar cycle makes this effect permanent.

Legendary [Tier 4] upgrade

When you achieve level 17 while attuned to the stick, you have a +3 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this weapon in shillelagh form.

Splinter Blast. You use an action to blast splinters from the stick in a 30-foot cone. Each creature in that area must make a Dexterity saving throw, taking 8d6 piercing damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one. This feature can be used a number of times per day equal to your proficiency bonus.

Tree Friend. As an action, you magically animate one tree you can see within 60 feet. The tree has the same statistics as a treant, except it has Intelligence and Charisma scores of 1, it can’t speak, and it has only the Slam action option. The animated tree acts as an ally for 1 hour or until it dies; or until you take a bonus action to turn it back into an inanimate tree. The tree then takes root if possible. This feature can be used a number of times per day equal to your proficiency bonus.
