This new magic item for Dungeons & Dragons is a cloak that improves your stealth, growing in power with its user.
Cloak of the Rogue
Wondrous Item, uncommon [Tier1]
(requires attunement)
Weight: 1 lb.
When you attune to this item while level 4 or below, it appears to be a Cloak of Elvenkind. While you wear this cloak with its hood up, Wisdom (Perception) checks made to see you have disadvantage, and you have advantage on Dexterity (Stealth) checks made to hide, as the cloak’s color shifts to camouflage you. Pulling the hood up or down requires an action.
Rare [Tier 2] upgrade
When you achieve level 5 while attuned to the cloak, you can pull the hood up or down as a bonus action.
Blur. While the cloak’s hood is up, it can blur your form. For up to 1 minute, any creature has disadvantage on attack rolls against you. An attacker is immune to this effect if it doesn’t rely on sight, as with blindsight, or can see through illusions, as with truesight. This feature can be used a number of times per day equal to your proficiency bonus.
Levitate. While you wear the cloak, you can use an action to cast the Levitate spell on yourself. This feature can be used a number of times per day equal to your proficiency bonus.
Very Rare [Tier 3] upgrade
When you achieve level 10 while attuned to the cloak, you gain a +1 bonus to AC and saving throws while wearing the cloak.
Invisibility. While you wear the cloak, you can use an action to cast the Invisibility spell on yourself. This feature can be used a number of times per day equal to your proficiency bonus.
Misty Step. While you wear the cloak, you can use a bonus action to cast the Misty Step spell on yourself. This feature can be used a number of times per day equal to your proficiency bonus.
Legendary [Tier 4] upgrade
When you achieve level 17 while attuned to the cloak, you have a +2 bonus to AC and saving throws while wearing the cloak.
Misty Escape. While you wear the cloak, you can use an action turn invisible and teleport, along with any equipment you are wearing or carrying, up to 30 feet to an unoccupied space you can see. The invisibility lasts 1 hour or until you attack or cast a spell.
Fly. While you wear the cloak, you can use an action to cast the Fly spell on yourself. This feature can be used a number of times per day equal to your proficiency bonus.
Power Tiers
To help Game Masters determine which player character levels a magic item is appropriate for, each item is assigned a power tier.
Tier 1: Levels 1 – 4
Common and Uncommon items for characters still learning their abilities.
Tier 2: Levels 5 – 10
Uncommon and Rare items for characters who are seasoned adventurers.
Tier 3: Levels 11 – 16
Very Rare items for characters who are established masters of their class.
Tier 4: Levels 17 +
Legendary items for characters who are like superheroes or demigods.
An item’s power tier is only a suggestion, and the GM should consider how each item would best fit with their campaign and player characters.
