This new magic item for Dungeons & Dragons is a powerful cannon that blasts hellfire and flaming, shrieking skulls across the battlefield.
Hellfire Cannon
Wondrous item, very rare
Damage: Variable
Weight: 2,000 lbs.
Properties: Large Object, Loading, (Range 600/2,400 ft)
This heavy iron cannon was forged in the lower planes to battle the enemies of Hell. It shoots streams of searing hellfire or shrieking, flaming skulls. It takes one action to load and aim the cannon and one action to fire it.
Hellfire Blast. The cannon discharges hellfire in a line 600 feet long and 5 feet wide. Each creature in the area must make a DC 15 Dexterity saving throw, taking 33 (6d10) fire damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one. The hellfire ignites any flammable objects in the area that aren’t being worn or carried.
Skull Blast. The cannon fires a flaming, shrieking undead skull in a line up to 2,400 ft. The skull explodes upon striking a creature or object. Each creature in a 20-foot-radius sphere centered on that point must make a DC 15 Dexterity saving throw. A target takes 22 (4d10) piercing and 22 (4d10) fire damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.
Siege Weapon. The cannon deals double damage to objects and structures.
After the cannon has fired 3 times, it must cool for 1 minute before it can be fired again. If it is fired again without cooling, roll 1d6 each time it is fired. On a 1, the cannon explodes. Each creature in a 20-foot-radius must make a DC 15 Dexterity saving throw, taking 22 (4d10) piercing and 33 (6d10) fire damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.
The Siege
A Dungeons & Dragons adventure for Levels 10 – 14
You receive a desperate message from a Temple of Light located at the edge of the great western wilderness. Their small fortress is besieged by Orcs and Goblins who are led by a pale, beautiful woman with batlike wings.
The woman is Kash’likah, an Erinyes who wants to acquire a holy artifact hidden in the temple. She cannot pass the temple’s magic barrier, so she is using her minions to destroy the clerics who stand in her way.
A powerful Hellfire Cannon blasts the temple with hellfire and launches screaming skulls over the walls. To break the siege, you must destroy, disable, or steal the cannon. Although the cannon is protected by orcs at all times, they are not expecting an attack from behind or within their army.
If you destroy Kash’likah and her cannon, her forces scatter. The temple is saved, and the clerics reward you with several healing potions and a statuette worth 1,000 gp.
