Storm in a Bottle

Wondrous Item, rare

Weight: 1 lb.

A powerful thunderstorm rages inside this glass bottle. If the bottle is opened or broken, the storm is released, encompassing a 60 ft. radius around the bottle. It lasts for 1 minute before it dissipates. During this time, the storm has the following effects:

  • The area of effect is lightly obscured, and creatures in the area have disadvantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on sight. Heavy rain also extinguishes open flames and imposes disadvantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on hearing.
  • Each creature that starts its turn in the area must succeed on a DC12 Strength saving throw or be pushed 10 feet in a random direction by heavy winds. A flying creature must land at the end of its turn or fall.
  • At the start of each turn, lightning crackles in the area of effect. Each creature within the area must make a DC12 Dexterity saving throw. A creature takes 3d10 lightning damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.

The bottle loses its magic after the storm is released.

Rolling Thunder

A short Dungeons & Dragons adventure for levels 9 – 13

A strange machine is headed directly towards the quiet village of Greenhaven. Farmers describe an armored wagon with 10 foot tall wheels that belches flame and smoke as it rolls over fields and houses.

The machine is a war wagon driven by a pack of Goblins. The foul creatures stole the wagon from a gnome inventor and are enjoying the havoc they cause by running over anything and anyone that gets in their way.

Jumping onto the war wagon while it is in motion requires a DC15 Dexterity (Acrobatics) check. The hatch on top of the wagon can be unlocked with thieves’ tools, using a DC15 Dexterity to pick the lock. The hatch can also be broken by dealing 20 hp of bludgeoning or force damage.

Inside the war wagon, five goblins work the controls while several more are ready to fight. To drive the wagon, you must take the controls and use your action to pilot the vehicle. The goblins have a collection of trinkets and a Storm in a Bottle that they enjoy watching, unaware of its power.
