The Witness

A short Dungeons & Dragons adventure for levels 1-5

Criminal mastermind Gheris Vaughn is on trial for the murder of a high-ranked cleric. The only witness to the crime is a young thief named Marya Von Holdst. You are tasked with transporting the witness from a small town jail to the high court in Morgos, where she will be pardoned in exchange for her testimony.

Marya is a Shadowdancer, a member of the Morgos thieves guild. But she is eager to start a new life and will cooperate with you if you promise to protect her. The Shadowdancers have hired a Wereboar mercenary named Jaxon Kearns to silence Marya before she can testify. Kearns leads a small group of Bandits to intercept your party and kill the witness.

The Shadowdancers and Kearns are always aware of Marya’s location because she still wears her Ring of the Shadowdancer, unaware that it can be used to track her. When your party comes under attack by Kearns and his bandits, she tries to slip away using the ring’s powers.

If you protect the witness and successfully deliver her to the high court, you receive her Ring of the Shadowdancer and 300 gp as payment from the court.
