This new magic item for Dungeons & Dragons holds the power of ancient wyrding magic. Speak a powerful wyrd while holding the crystal to activate a spell.
Wyrding Crystal
Wondrous Item, rare (requires attunement by a spellcaster)
Weight: ¼ lb.
This glowing blue crystal holds the power of ancient wyrding magic. The crystal starts with 10 charges, and it regains 1d6 expended charges daily at dawn.
You can use an action to speak a powerful magic wyrd, expending a number of charges based on the chosen wyrd.
Binding Wyrd (1 charge). One creature you can see within 90 ft. must succeed a DC 15 Wisdom saving throw or be affected by the Hold Monster spell.
Confusing Wyrd (1 charge). One creature you can see within 90 ft. must succeed a DC 15 Wisdom saving throw or be affected by the Confusion spell.
Ice Wyrd (3 charges). You cast the Cone of Cold spell at 6th level, dealing 9d8 cold damage.
Lightning Wyrd (3 charges). You cast the Lightning Bolt spell at 6th level, dealing 11d6 lightning damage.
Ethereal Wyrd (5 charges). You cast the Etherealness spell on yourself.
The Spell Eater
A short Dungeons & Dragons adventure for levels 8-12
Zander’s School of Magic is a small, unremarkable building on the outskirts of town. The green dragonborn Mage named Arek Zander is not a very powerful wizard, but his patient teachings have developed several generations of hedge mages who help their communities.
Unfortunately, the school is threatened by a mysterious force that has left one student in a coma and stolen magic from several others. Zander asks for your help. He describes waking up after a long rest feeling drained of magic. Several of his magic items have also lost their power.
Your investigations lead you to the school’s newest student, a young half-elf named Elandras. Elandras is actually a Yilarith in disguise. The strange, mouthless creature feeds on magic and will target any spellcaster in your party.
If you expose the yilarith and defend the school, Arek Zander gives you a Wyrding Crystal and a nonmagical gem worth 1,000 gp.
