Flute of the Faun

Wondrous Item, rare (requires attunement)

Weight: 2 lbs.

These pan flutes are frequently played by Satyrs in the fey realm. The instruments sometimes find their way to the prime material plane, where they are coveted by bards of all races. They have 5 charges. While playing the flute, you can expend 1 or more charges as an action to cast a spell.

1 charge: Animal Friendship, Charm Person

2 charges: Calm Emotions, Suggestion

3 charges: Compulsion, Confusion

5 charges: Irresistible Dance, Mass Suggestion

The spell save is DC 13 unless your spell save DC is higher. The flute regains all expended charges daily at dawn.

If you have proficiency with a pan flute, you can add your proficiency bonus to any ability checks you make to play music with the instrument. A bard can use a musical instrument as a spellcasting focus.

Satyr’s Day

A short Dungeons & Dragons adventure for Levels 3-7

Spirits are high at a summer festival that celebrates your community’s close relations to the fey realm. This year the guest of honor is Mr. Ichychin, a Satyr bard. As part of the festivities, Mr. Ichychin and his band of Sprites are performing for a large audience in the center of town.

Mr. Ichychin challenges you to a musical contest. If you win, the satyr will give you his Flute of the Faun. If you lose, you will give him the memory of your first love. For three rounds, roll a Performance check against Mr. Ichychin’s Performance +6 roll. The highest two out of three rounds wins.

The ornery satyr is not above cheating. If he loses the first round, he uses his magic flute to cast Confusion on you. If he still loses the contest, Mr. Ichychin is impressed by your talent and offers you a gig in his home kingdom.
